Please note that the photographs on these pages are displayed in chronological order. The early photos are very poor and the later ones are somewhat better, indicating the improvements in our knowledge and equipment over the period.
Astrophotography is an expensive and very time-consuming hobby, but the results can really be very worthwhile. However, it is extremely frustrating when a night's session reveals just a black sky (maybe with a few stars) or while waiting for a clear sky.
The website ClearOutside is an excellent forecasting tool for astronomers.
Unfortunately, there are a rapidly increasing number of man-made satellites orbiting our planet and it is very rare to take a sequence of images without having several ruined by one (or more) of these satellites. Here is an example:
